How to Fix Space Marine 2 Crashing on PS5

If Space Marine 2 closes to the PS5 home screen, freezes mid-mission, or the console shuts itself down, work through the steps below in order. They start with the fastest fix and end with the one that takes the longest.

1. Power cycle your console
A full power cycle clears the temporary memory behind most crashes, and Rest Mode does not do this. Press and hold the power button until the console shuts down completely. Wait for the indicator light to stop flashing. Unplug the power cable, wait 2 minutes, then reconnect it and turn the console on.

2. Check for game and system updates
A version mismatch after a patch causes crashes on launch and during matchmaking. Highlight the game in your library → press Options → Check for Update. For system software, go to Settings → System → System Software → System Software Update and Settings.

3. Clear the cache and rebuild the database
This repairs a corrupted system database, which causes crashes with no apparent pattern. Turn the PS5 off completely — do not use Rest Mode — then press and hold the power button until you hear a second beep, about seven seconds, to enter Safe Mode. Connect your controller with a USB cable and press the PS button, select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database → Clear System Software Cache, and when it finishes, run Rebuild Database as well. Your games and saves are not deleted.

4. Check for overheating
The PS5 shuts down or crashes when it exceeds safe temperatures. Leave 10–15 cm of open space on all sides and keep the console out of a closed cabinet, place it on a flat hard surface rather than carpet or other electronics, and clear dust from the exhaust vents with compressed air while the console is powered down and unplugged.

5. Reinstall the game
A reinstall replaces every game file, including ones the steps above cannot repair. Your progress is stored on your account and in cloud saves, not in the game files. Go to Settings → Storage → Games and Apps, select the game → Delete, then reinstall from your Game Library.
