How to Fix Not Being Able to Join a Friend in Space Marine 2

Joining a friend involves two connections, not one, so the setting that blocks you may be on either end. Both of you need to check — the problem is often on the side of the person hosting, not the person trying to get in.

Symptoms

  • The invite arrives and joining fails or hangs on the loading screen

  • The squad shows as not joinable when it is not full

  • You can play with some friends and not others

  • Joining works on one platform combination and fails on another

  1. Check your NAT type on both connections. A strict NAT type blocks incoming session data, so the player with the stricter setting is usually the one causing the failure, even if they are the one hosting successfully.
    Compare results after:

    • Open works with everything.

    • Moderate works with Open and sometimes with other Moderate connections.

    • Strict frequently fails. If either of you shows Strict, that is the connection to fix — enabling UPnP in that router's settings usually resolves it.

      1. PC: open Windows SettingsGamingXbox Networking and read the NAT type shown there

      3. Xbox: SettingsGeneralNetwork settings

  2. Check crossplay on both accounts. Open Settings → Gameplay on both machines and confirm crossplay is set the same way. If either of you has it off and you are on different platforms, the session will not be visible at all — there is no error message for this, it simply does not appear.

  3. Change your DNS. Open Windows SettingsNetwork & Internet → your connection → Edit next to DNS server assignment → switch to Manual → turn on IPv4. Set the preferred DNS to 1.1.1.1 and the alternate to 1.0.0.1 for Cloudflare, or 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for Google. Save, then restart the game.

Still cannot join?

Send us a report and include both platforms, both regions, both NAT types, whether crossplay was on for each of you, and any error text that appeared. Joining problems always involve two accounts, so tell us about both — a report covering only your side takes twice as long to resolve.
