Performance Issue Troubleshooting (Steam)

  1. If the game freezes, lags, or has fps drops - try restarting the game.
  2. Make sure that the main network channel is not used by many devices. The general recommendation is to use channel 5 GHz for this purpose. 2.1. Make sure Stream Bitrate is in the range of 300-500 Mbps and does not exceed 500 Mbps.
  3. Make sure that the video streaming resolution settings in Virtual Desktop\Steam Link\Oculus Link\Air Link match the recommended resolution settings from the Virtual Desktop developers for your graphics card

3.1. Make sure that the general resolution settings in Steam VR match the recommended resolution settings from the Virtual Desktop developers for your graphics card, or equal to 100% of your Virtual Desktop/SteamLink/Oculus Link/Air Link app (which was previously configured)

3.2. Make sure that the resolution settings for the specific “WWZ VR” game in Steam VR settings match the recommended resolution settings from Virtual Desktop developers for your graphics card or equal to 100% of Virtual Desktop\SteamLink\Oculus Link\Air Link (which was previously configured).

4. If possible, use Codec NVENC, NVENC 10 Bit, or AV1(if available) and do not use Codec H.264

5. When using Oculus Link\Air Link, make sure the “(PC) Asynchronous Spacewarp” setting is set to “Disabled”

*To do this, run “OculusDebugTool.exe” which is usually located in “Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics\” folder, and find the setting in the window that opens. After applying the setting, restart Steam VR and Oculus Link\Air Link completely.

6. Close unnecessary background applications or other overlay applications that may be overlaid on top of the game (especially if you use Virtual Desktop, any overlays on top of the game may cause FPS drops). is

7. Since the 10th generation of Intel i-series processors, there is an error in the calculation of the OpenSSL instructions, which Intel describes more fully here: https://software.intel.com/content/www/us/en/develop/articles/openssl-sha-crash-bug-requires-application-update.html

Until this is resolved, you might want to try to follow this safe workaround:

  1. Press WinKey+R to open Run window. In it paste: SystemPropertiesAdvanced
  2. Press Ok.
  3. Next, click on Environment Variables...
  4. In the lower frame, System Variables, press New
  5. And in the fields, paste these values:
  6. Variable Name: OPENSSL_ia32cap
  7. Variable value: ~0x20000000
  8. Press Ok and close the Environment Variables window. Restart the computer. Try to run the game now.
