Troubleshooting Tempest Rising Crashes

General Tips

Please try these steps if your game crashes:

  1. Verify the Integrity of Game Files through Steam.
  2. Make sure you have the latest Windows and BIOS updates installed.
  3. Try running the game as an Administrator.
  4. Try setting a higher priority for Tempest Rising in Windows Task Manager.
  5. If you have multiple monitors connected, try leaving only one primary.
  6. Close all applications that may use the microphone and audio or boost performance (Discord, Skype, MSI Afterburner, and others) in the Task Manager before starting the game.
  7. Try disabling all controllers (steering wheels, gamepads, headphones, and even a keyboard) before starting the game. In some cases, they can cause unexpected issues.

We recommend doing a full clean of GPU drivers and making a fresh install of the latest version. If a new version doesn’t fix it, try one of the older ones. NVIDIA recommends Display Driver Uninstaller for clean removal, so you may want to start with it.

Windows Defender Firewall

Allow Tempest Rising in Windows Defender Firewall:

  1. Search for Windows Defender Firewall in the Windows Search Bar
  2. Select "Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall" on the left
  3. Scroll down and find "TempestGame" and click on both Private and Public to be enabled
  4. Click the "Ok" button to confirm changes

Reinstalling the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime

  1. Uninstall Visual C++ Redistributable, then download both versions (x86 and x64) of this program and install them individually.
  2. It is vital to download the necessary components for a 64-bit system (even if you have x64 Windows OS) and a 32-bit (x86) operating system because many programs use this particular file.
  3. Make sure you have DirectX and .NET Framework installed.

Steam Client Configuration

Try clearing Steam's Download Cache files:

  1. Open Steam, then navigate to the Settings tab located at the top-right corner of the page.
  2. Click on the Downloads option.
  3. Click Clear Download Cache and click Confirm to proceed with the action.

You can try changing Steam configurations to improve your in-game experience:

  1. In Steam, click on the “Library” option (you’ll get a complete list of the games you play).
  2. Right-click on Tempest Rising.
  3. At the bottom, there’ll be an option named “Properties”.
  4. Click on the “Set Launch Options” button.
  5. In the dialogue box, write -autoconfig and press the OK button.

If this issue is present, try to launch the game with the Safe Launch option:

  1. Repeat the same procedure as mentioned above.
  2. In the dialogue box, write -safe and press the OK button.
