Troubleshooting Common Technical Issues (PC)

General Tips

Please try these steps if your game crashes:

  • Verify game files (Epic Games Store or Steam).
  • Disable built-in\integrated GPU.
  • Update your drivers to the latest version.
  • Try running the game as an Administrator.
  • Apply the latest Windows updates.
  • Try using AMD Clean Up Utility.
  • Try setting a higher priority for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 in Windows Task Manager.
  • Try disabling all controllers (steering wheels, gamepads, headphones, and even a keyboard) before starting the game. In some cases, they can cause unexpected issues.
  • Close all applications that may use the microphone and audio or boost performance (Discord, Skype, MSI Afterburner, and others) in the Task Manager before starting the game.
  • If you have multiple monitors connected, try leaving only one primary.

We recommend doing a full clean of GPU drivers and making a fresh install of the latest version. If a new version doesn’t fix it, try one of the older ones. NVIDIA recommends Display Driver Uninstaller for clean removal, so you may want to start with it.

Limit GPU Max Frequency

For AMD GPU

You can set the GPU Max Frequency for the number recommended by your GPU manufacturer.
Here are instructions on how to do that:

  • Open the AMD Adrenalin Edition™ Application (you can download it here https://www.amd.com/en/support/download/drivers.html)
  • Go to Performance > Tuning, then under your GPU, select Custom (under Manual Tuning)
  • Once you do that, there should be a GPU Tuning section with an option for Advanced Control; enable that.
  • You'll see a Min Frequency and a Max Frequency.
  • Set the Max Frequency option for the number recommended by your card manufacturer and apply changes

Remove Local Driver Shader Cache

AMD
C:\Users%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\AMD\

NVIDIA

C:\Users%USERNAME%\AppData\LocalLow\NVIDIA\PerDriverVersion\DXCache

Reinstalling the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime

  • Uninstall Visual C++ Redistributable, then download both versions (x86 and x64) of this program and install them individually.
  • It is vital to download the necessary components for a 64-bit system (even if you have x64 Windows OS) and a 32-bit (x86) operating system because many programs use this particular file.
  • Make sure you have DirectX and .NET Framework installed.
