SnowRunner Crashes

General Tips

Please try these steps if your game crashes:

  • Verify game files (Epic Games Store or Steam).
  • Disable built-in\integrated GPU.
  • Update your drivers to the latest version.
  • Try running the game as an Administrator.
  • Apply the latest Windows updates.
  • Try using AMD Clean Up Utility.
  • Disable Image Sharpening in NVIDIA GeForce Experience.
  • Disable Fullscreen Optimizations.
  • Try setting a higher priority for SnowRunner in Windows Task Manager.
  • Try disabling all controllers (steering wheels, gamepads, headphones, and even a keyboard) before starting the game. In some cases, they can cause unexpected issues.
  • Close all applications that may use the microphone and audio or boost performance (Discord, Skype, MSI Afterburner, and others) in the Task Manager before starting the game.
  • If you have multiple monitors connected, try leaving only one primary.

We recommend doing a full clean of GPU drivers and making a fresh install of the latest version. If a new version doesn’t fix it, try one of the older ones. NVIDIA recommends Display Driver Uninstaller for clean removal, so you may want to start with it.

DirectX 11 Configuration

If you are playing on Epic Games:

  • Go to C:\ProgramData\Epic\EpicGamesLauncher\Data\Manifests\.
  • Find the file that represents SnowRunner ("72E..." ITEM format file).
  • You'll need to open each file in the folder until you find the one that has SnowRunner.exe in it as "LaunchExecutable". You can open those files with Notepad.
  • Find the "LaunchExecutable" line in the file.
  • Type "-DX11" into the "LaunchCommand" (should look like "LaunchCommand": "-DX11").
  • Try running the game. If the issue is present, reinstall DirectX 11.

If you are playing on Steam:

  • In Steam, click on the “Library” option (you’ll get a complete list of the games you play).
  • Right-click on SnowRunner.
  • At the bottom, there’ll be an option named “Properties”.
  • Click on the “Set Launch Options” button.
  • In the dialogue box, write -dx11 or -d3d11 and press the OK button.

Reinstalling the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime

  • Uninstall Visual C++ Redistributable, then download both versions (x86 and x64) of this program and install them individually.
  • It is vital to download the necessary components for a 64-bit system (even if you have x64 Windows OS) and a 32-bit (x86) operating system because many programs use this particular file.
  • Make sure you have DirectX and .NET Framework installed.

Steam Client Configuration

Try clearing Steam's Download Cache files:

  • Open Steam, then navigate to the Settings tab located at the top-right corner of the page.
  • Click on the Downloads option.
  • Click Clear Download Cache and click Confirm to proceed with the action.

You can try changing Steam configurations to improve your in-game experience:

  • In Steam, click on the “Library” option (you’ll get a complete list of the games you play).
  • Right-click on SnowRunner.
  • At the bottom, there’ll be an option named “Properties”.
  • Click on the “Set Launch Options” button.
  • In the dialogue box, write -autoconfig and press the OK button.

If this issue is present, try to launch the game with the Safe Launch option:

  • Repeat the same procedure as mentioned above.
  • In the dialogue box, write -safe and press the OK button.

Epic Games Launcher Cache

You can also try to clear the Epic Games Launcher's cache:

  • Exit the Epic Games Launcher by right-clicking on the system tray icon in the bottom-right corner and then clicking Exit.
  • Press the Windows key + R and type “%localappdata%” to open a File Explorer window.
  • Open the Epic Games Launcher folder.
  • Open the Saved folder.
  • Click the “webcache” folder, and then delete it.
  • Restart your computer and start the Epic Games Launcher.

Console General Tips

  • Check the game for updates, and install them, if any.
  • Clear your console’s cache files (see the respective guide from your platform).
  • If the previous steps did not help, reinstall the game.
  • As a last resort, back up your saved data and reset the console (Xbox Guide, PlayStation Guide). Please note that resetting your console erases all data saved on your console storage.
